It seems like more and more industries are jumping on the 3D movement. Remember when the 3D movies first came out and then you could buy the 3D TV and the glasses? Now movies are moving more into 4D. What does that even mean? 4D involves other senses like if a movie has a pizza in it, you would start smelling pizza, or a light mist water splashing out at you if a champagne bottle pops. (You know what I mean if you sat down at the 4D movie in Disney World.) However this article is about 3D printing and how it is taking on the world by storm. Want to 3D print your shoes? Your wish may be closer than you think.
The price of a 3D printer went from $18,000 to $400 in 10 years while also being 100x faster. China printed a 6 story building. All major shoe companies are 3D printing shoes. No shoes to match that dress? Scan your feet and print your shoes at home. The health industry has been involved in printing organs and most recently have been helping with COVID. By 2027, 10% of everything produced will be 3D printed.
3D Printed Shoes
I know this article is for the nerds, but we couldn’t help throwing some unique 3D printed shoes in the mix. Here are some 3D printed shoes using less but very durable materials, it is easier to use less. It goes back to the saying, “less is more” or “try not to fall.”
The first two are by chau har lee is a london-based shoe designer who has worked with yves saint laurent and nike among others. (designboom.com)
The last one is the Biomimicry shoe by Marieka Ratsma and Kostika Spaho - Dezeen. What was their design inspiration? A birds skull. The dutch fashion designer Marieka Ratsma and American architect Kostika Spaho designed these 3D-printed shoes. Photography by Thomas van Schaik.
Yes shoes are cool but how about houses?
How much would it cost to 3D print a house? Well, sometimes it’s around $10,00 or even less.
Can you believe this house can be built in about 24 hours?
3D Printing Organs
Did you know that researchers bio printed a smaller version of the human heart in 2019. Even though they are still working on having the heart pump blood effectively, I would say that it is still pretty amazing.
3D Printing is also used to print safety goggles for health professionals.
A PPE manufacturer in China are printing safety goggles. Can you believe it took less than 2 weeks to create and finalize the eye wear? Over 5,000 goggles have been a created and donated. Within the next couple weeks, they are looking to create and donate over 10,000.
The number of 3D Printer manufacturers is rising.
I am in no way shape or form giving investment advice.
“AMFG’s Additive Manufacturing Industry Landscape 2019 has identified more than 80 3D printer manufacturers, the majority of which appeared in the last five to ten years.” - (amfg.ai)
More and more industries are using 3D printers.
They are becoming beneficial across many different industries, from fashion to construction, all the way into the medical field.
